Behind the scenes of hybrid Parliament

In April the House of Commons and House of Lords took unprecedented steps towards enabling virtual sittings in order to keep democracy going during the coronavirus crisis. In this 45-minute talk you'll meet 3 members of staff as they talk about their involvement, and that of their colleagues, in making that happen.

Join John Angeli, Director of Parliamentary Audio-Video and Matthew Hamlyn, Strategic Director of the Chamber and Committees, as they talk about what it was like to work behind the scenes on a project that enabled MPs to quiz ministers via Zoom for the first time in the House of Commons 700-year history.

You'll also be joined by Edward Scott, House of Lords Library Researcher, as he gives an in-depth account of how the hybrid sittings in the House of Lords worked and how they had an impact on member participation.

At the end of the talk, 15 minutes are available for you to ask questions.
